[simple-social-share]

Granite countertops are here to stay. This natural stone’s sustainability, durability, and variety of color make it an easy “yes” for most homeowners. Granite isn’t, however, maintenance free. There are several factors to consider in granite countertop maintenance. To help you out with that, we’ve compiled a list of do’s and don’ts.Granite Countertop Maintenance

Do:

Wash your countertop regularly with mild soap and hot water. Granite-specific cleaners are perfectly safe to use, but ultimately unnecessary. Soap and water will do the job!

Shine your granite countertops with a small amount of cooking oil and a microfiber cloth. This provides a bit of stain protection in addition to a gorgeous shine!

Wipe up spills immediately, especially acidic spills like alcohol and sodas.

Always use trivets and hot pads for hot pots and pans. Granite may suffer heat shock which can cause cracking.

Don’t:

Use acidic cleaners. Whether natural substances like vinegar and essential oils or common household cleaners like bleach and Windex, the acidity can eat away at granite’s sealant.

Allow too much weight on any one spot of your granite countertop. Although granite is hard and durable, it is not flexible, so sitting or standing on it could cause a crack.

Assume your granite should be resealed within the average two to four-year range. All granite is different, and some types should never be sealed at all. If your countertop has been sealed, test the sealant annually to see if resealing is needed.

Forget to provide your granite countertops with the support they need. Our Victory Bracket or Floating Surface Adjustable Bracket will give you peace of mind that your counter will be secure and beautiful for many years to come.

Like anything worth keeping in this life, granite countertops require a little care and attention. But when you treat granite right, it’ll last and last. Form a daily routine, and before you know it caring for your granite countertops will be a breeze!
